A Vividlinks Story
Sandra Negro, post-doc Animal Health, University of Liège
When Sandra Negro finalized her PhD in New Zealand about marine animals, she decided to search for her next job in Belgium, close to her family. After her extraordinary experience in New Zealand, she had difficulties to determine what she wanted to do. A friend of Sandra, also an ex-student at the University of Liège, drew her attention to a job posting at Vividlinks. Sandra made a profile, applied for the job and now she is doing her post-doc research on inflammation, oxidative stress and mitochondrial functions in horses.
Searching…
"At the moment I use Vividlinks mainly as a career site. The labour market in Life Sciences is fragmented, the competition is very high." There are many job seekers, institutions and organizations in this sector, but it still lacked a central meeting place. This is what Vividlinks offers in a simple and transparent way. That vacancies from around the entire Euregio can be found, offers opportunities. “Working abroad gives me the opportunity to learn new insights, languages and techniques from different universities”. In addition, Sandra perceives Vividlinks as a way to keep track on what's going on with other professionals in her field, "I think that through Vividlinks, we can inspire and encourage each other in our work". Sandra's sister has just graduated and also visits Vividlinks regularly.
… and finding
Professionals from the University of Liège (ULg) also find their way to Vividlinks. We permanently recruit staff in the Life Sciences sector. Vividlinks is an interesting opportunity to find good candidates. Its catchy design and the idea of a community behind it are definitely good assets”, says Anne Goffin, working at the Human Resource Administration of ULg. Her colleague Elisabeth Waltregny adds, “We advise our alumni in Life Sciences to go to Vividlinks, create a profile and search for vacancies that fit their criteria”.

Found @ Vividlinks
Ute Steinbusch is Head of Business Development and Marketing at the German company Celonic. She was one of the first professionals to have a profile on Vividlinks. We asked her about her first experiences with Vividlinks.
How do you know Vividlinks?
"I have been working at Celonic now for two years. I used to work at AGIT before, the Regional Development Agency for the Technology Region Aachen. There we had the idea to initiate Skills³, a project aiming at strengthening the Euregional labour market in the Life Sciences sector. They had the same goal as us; to bring employers and students from the Euregional Life Sciences sector together. In this way I became quickly acquainted with Vividlinks, one of the activities of Skills³.
How do you use Vividlinks?
"Next to Business Development and Marketing, I’m also responsible for Human Resources at Celonic. We regularly have vacancies, at this moment we have two, for technical functions. We publish them onVividlinks, it gives us great response. We know that there are many qualified, highly-educated people in the Euregio, there is much potential. But it is not always easy to reach them. Students and companies can create a profile on Vividlinks; it allows us to restrict our search to those people who fit our vacancy. And vice versa, students can also look for companies and functions that appeal to them."
First experiences?
"What I like about Vividlinks is that it is a community, a network. This is especially interesting for young people. I think the possibilities for blogging and asking questions at a forum will be greatly appreciated. Just be aware, we will read them too of course!" adds Ute with a laugh. "We can learn a lot about what's happening amongst this target group. In the future I would be interested to also post job openings for senior functions and middle management to find qualified people. If it will be possible to hire also these kind of people via Vividlinks, this would be a great development."
