Sponges and medicine

Wed, 31 Mar 2010

Jasper de Goeij discovered that cave sponges play an important role in the survival of the coral reef. Sponges in cave walls play an important role in the food cycle of the coral reef and produce a lot of organic material. The dead cells produced by the sponges can easily be consumed by other organisms in the reef. Sponges are sort of recycling machines for food in the coral reef.
