PharmaCell celebrated its anniversary on February 26. It provides contract services in the area of human-cell and -tissue banking and culturing as well as human cell line development and manufacturing of (bio) pharmaceuticals. Next to a GMP license, PharmaCell is the only commercial company in The Netherlands to hold an official license as Registered Tissue Establishment.
PharmaCell is located in the Biopartner Center Maastricht and, therefore, can take advantage of an extensive network to mediate in R&D, financing and housing requirements of clients. Close cooperation with Maastricht University and the associated Academic Hospital gives PharmaCell the unique capability to provide support and/or partnership to R&D companies to bring new products from the lab into the clinic.
The Dutch GMP inspectorate (IGZ) has published the year report for 2008 containing an article on PharmaCell indicating the company as an example of GMP compliance in the sector.
The anniversary was celebrated by a series of lectures. One was an overview of the cell therapy market, with leading companies and their product potentials by CEO Alexander Vos. There was a talk on ChondroCelect, concerned with a cell based approach to arthrosis, where Gert De Beckker spoke about managing the regulatory expectations under the new ATMP (Advanced therapy Medicinal Products) framework. There was also a talk by John Lisman of NautaDutilh on setting the standards of quality for donation procurement, testing, processing, preservation, storage, and the distribution of human tissues and cells. And finally a talk by René Lardenoije on good manufacturing practice in the production of cell therapy products.
