The ILT is working on the development of new laser beam sources and components, the use of modern laser measurement technology and production innovations utilizing lasers. This includes for example laser cutting, caving, drilling, welding and soldering as well as surface treatment, micro-processing and rapid-prototyping. A key area of research at the ILT is micro technology which is currently focusing on life sciences as a new field for research. In the Department of Micro Technology laser processes for packaging and interconnection, microstructuring and thin film technology are being developed. The applications are traditionally in the fields of electronics, precision mechanics and optics, communication and information technology.
